Needle Coating
From tip to blade to shank, sewing machine needles offer a wealth of features that can be fine-tuned for specific applications. Once the needle design is finalised, one last detail remains: the coating.

SCHMETZ uses three types of coating:
Chrome is the standard coating on SCHMETZ household needles, bringing the high-quality finish already established in the industry into the SCHMETZ household range.
Wear protection — recognisable by its gold colour — is designed for extra durability. It's the ideal choice for intensive sewing projects or heavier fabrics. The exceptionally hard coating compensates for minor user errors, making it a great option for beginners and frequent sewers alike. It also means the needle needs replacing less often, and helps maintain consistent, even seams over long projects. Wear protection coating is currently applied to our Gold Embroidery, Gold Topstitch, and Gold Jeans needles.
Anti-stick — applied in black — is our recommendation for delicate or adhesive materials. It reduces the build-up of sticky residue on the needle and eye, helping to prevent skipped stitches and thread breakage. You can experience the benefits of this coating with our Black Super Universal, Black Super Stretch, and Black Super Fine needles.
